Vehicle Card – Odometer

This article provides information on the data included in the Vehicle Card's Odometer hoverbox.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

The Universal Odometer Algorithm is a unified system that automatically selects the most reliable odometer data source—diagnostic, trip-based, or GPS-based—to ensure the most accurate and consistent mileage reporting possible.

The system will intelligently switch between three possible data sources:

  1. Diagnostic Odometer (Preferred):
Used when valid diagnostic data is available. This is considered the most accurate source and aligns closely with the vehicle’s dashboard.

  2. Trip-Based Odometer (Fallback):
Activated when diagnostic values stop reporting, become erratic, or contain errors. It continues to track mileage based on trip data until diagnostic input resumes.

  3. GPS-Based Odometer (Last Resort):
Used only if neither diagnostic nor trip-based data is available, ensuring mileage continues to update in all scenarios.

As soon as a valid diagnostic odometer value is received, the system automatically switches back to diagnostic inputs.

This new algorithm applies to all device types except Geotab, Numerex, Orbcomm, and GPSI Mobile. Those devices will continue to use their existing odometer handling. If you have any questions about your device type, please contact your Account Manager.

Accessing Odometer Information

Odometer data can be accessed in the Odometer section of a vehicle’s Vehicle Card on the Map page or the Vehicle details drawer on the Admin: Vehicles tab (permissions required).

The Odometer section provides a transparent and trackable waypoint (odometer reading entry) management experience, featuring enhanced logging with user attribution, an at-a-glance history of odometer changes, and clear differentiation between system-generated and manual adjustments. Users can view detailed before-and-after values for each change, along with direct access to the comprehensive Odometer History Detail report within the vehicle details page.

How to Access Odometer Information

  1. From the Map Page, click on a vehicle to open the Vehicle Card, then scroll down on the Overview tab to “Odometer” or from the Admin: Vehicles tab, click on the vehicle’s name (under the Vehicle Name column) to open the Vehicle details drawer, then scroll down to “Odometer.”

  2. Hover your mouse over the info icon next to “More odometer details” to view the Odometer Information hoverbox.

The Odometer Information hoverbox appears, providing the following information:

    • Odometer Data Source: Diagnostic, Trip-Based, or GPS-Based

    • Last mileage adjustment type

    • Miles or kilometers before waypoint

    • Miles or kilometers at waypoint

    • User who made the last waypoint change

    • Date & time of the last waypoint change

    • Link to the selected vehicle’s Full Odometer History report (See full odometer history button)

Entering a Waypoint

If you’d like to enter a waypoint for a vehicle’s odometer, you can do so from the Vehicle Card Status Bar.
